Wildlands Conservancy - Get Out for Wellness: Woodland Hills & Lower Saucon Apple Festival
Join us to explore the gently rolling grounds of the former Woodland Hills golf course. This is a terrific place to see signs of wildlife and to cross-country ski in winter. Hike length is a 2.4-mile loop. Just down the road is the historic, one-room Lutz-Franklin Schoolhouse. It’s maintained by the Lower Saucon Township Historical Society, which is having their Apple Festival the same day from 11 am to 3 pm. Docents will give tours of the one-room schoolhouse. There will be hot dogs, cider, and apple products for sale, and activities for children. So, start with our easy walk at the 148-acre Woodland Hills Preserve, meandering on grassy paths through small groves of trees, grassy meadows, and beside idyllic ponds. Then drop in at the Lutz-Franklin Schoolhouse for a step back in time. Sturdy footwear is recommended. These two events are appropriate for children of all ages. Dogs on leash are welcome. Bring your walking stick or hiking poles and binoculars/camera to view autumn scenes, as well as to capture delightful details of life at a one-room schoolhouse. There is a portable toilet at Woodland Hills and a nice bathroom at the schoolhouse. DIRECTIONS: Take I-78 to PA -412 S, Exit 67 south. Turn left onto PA 412 for 300 feet or so. Turn left onto Cherry Lane for 0.5 mile. Turn left onto Easton Road for 2.1 miles. Turn left onto Countryside Lane. Go 0.8 miles to the parking area on your right. This program is offered free of charge thanks to funding by Lehigh Valley Health Network. Questions? Contact Christine Murray cmurray@wildlandspa.org
