Wildlands Conservancy - Get Out! For Wellness: Lock Ridge Furnace Museum & Park
Enjoy impressive stone structures and arches at this Lehigh County Park. What looks like a stone castle was once a coal-burning iron furnace. The beauty of the furnace and surrounding structures belie their industrial roots. Lock Ridge Furnace was an important part of the early iron industry in the region. Lock Ridge operated as an iron mill from 1868 until 1921. Lehigh County acquired the Furnace in 1972 from the William Butz family. In 1981, it was listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The Lehigh County Historical Society cares for the Museum and gives tours on weekends from May to September. Lock Ridge Park offers a variety of recreational activities within its 59 acres. Swabia Creek runs through the park. Dogs on leash are welcome. Dress appropriately for the weather. The trail we’ll walk is mostly macadam with a section of brick surface near the end and mostly level. This walk is free and is part of the Get Out! For Wellness series, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network. Please register online at: https://engage.wildlandspa.org/calendar/event/71 Also, check out our new website!
