Wildlands Conservancy: Get Out! for Wellness: Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve
Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve contains 134 acres of local plants. We’ll walk through sprawling meadows and cool woods. This preserve is also a botanical museum. There’s a book and gift shop as well as the Native Plant Nursery where you can buy wildflowers and shrubs. The Preserve is next to the 125-foot-tall Bowman’s Tower, which was built 1929-31 to commemorate George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware. After our walk, you can visit the Tower on your own. On a clear day you can see for 14 miles. There’s an elevator in the tower (you have to walk the final 24 steps to the look-out). There’s also a spiral staircase you can use. There’s a nice gift shop (of course!) This excursion is appropriate for all ages. Wear layers appropriate for the weather and comfortable walking shoes, not sandals. Bring your water bottle, which you can fill at their water dispensary. No pets are allowed in the preserve. DIRECTIONS: The Preserve is on River Road/Rt. 32, 2.5 miles south of New Hope. After you turn into the property, you’ll see a large stone picnic pavilion on your right. Proceed past the pavilion, up the hill and through the wrought iron deer exclosure gates. Follow the road to the Visitor Center parking lot. We’ll meet there. GPS: 40.329932, -74.939177. This walk is part of the Get Out! for Wellness series.
