Hill's Machine Shop Open House
LANSFORD ALIVE TO HONOR HILL'S MACHINE SHOP
Lansford Alive will honor and present an award to longtime businessman Kenny Hill, owner of Hill's Machine Shop. The event will take place at the machine shop on Thursday, April 14, from 2pm-6pm. The shop closed on December 31, after 65 years in business. Located along Dock St. in Lansford, Hill's Machine Shop served customers large and small throughout the Panther Valley-Tamaqua area and beyond.
An agreement was reached with the borough of Lansford to purchase the building, the former Lehigh and New England freight station. The building has a long history in the borough, utilized as a freight and passenger station from the 1920s through the 1950s. The building was later converted into industrial manufacturing space and occupied by numerous businesses until Hill purchased and moved the machine shop to the location in 1979. The building will eventually be used as an anchor building for tourism in the borough.
Lansford Alive will honor Hill's Machine Shop during an open house and meet and greet event on Thursday, April 14, from 2pm-6pm. During that time, the public can visit the machine shop and talk with Kenny and Jeanie Hill. Representatives from the borough of Lansford, the Lansford Historical Society, and the Carbon Chamber of Economic Development will also be on hand to answer questions. The public is invited to attend the event throughout the day.
A ceremony will begin at 4:30pm, followed by the presentation of the award at 5pm. Lansford Alive president Christopher Ondrus invites the public to attend this event to honor Kenny. “Kenny lived his dream of owning a machine shop and was proud to have it in an historic building in Lansford. He ran a successful business for many years and gave back to his community whenever he could. It is only fitting that he be honored for his accomplishments over the years.”
