2016 Adult Pneumonia Immunization Clinic
Pneumonia is a common lung infection caused by bacteria, a virus or fungi. Anyone can get pneumonia. It's commonly a complication of a respiratory infection?especially the flu?but there are more than 30 different causes of the illness. Older adults and people with chronic disease, including COPD and asthma, are at high risk for pneumonia. Pneumonia and its symptoms can vary from mild to severe. Many treatments for pneumonia are available. Treatment depends on the cause of your pneumonia, how severe your symptoms are, and your age and overall health. Most healthy people recover from pneumonia in one to three weeks, but pneumonia can be life-threatening. The good news is that pneumonia can be prevented?by getting a vaccine for pneumococcal pneumonia. Co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Blue Mountain Health System.
