2017 Conversations on the Canal – History of Beer Making in the Lehigh Valley
History of Beer Making in the Lehigh Valley Christopher Bowen of Bethlehem is a beer historian, award-winning home brewer and filmmaker. He converted a shed into a private brewery and pub that was proclaimed by Forbes magazine as “America’s coolest home brewery.” His beer adventures have taken him to Canada, the United Kingdom and Russia. Chris has portrayed Bethlehem’s first brewmaster John Sebastian Goundie and brewed award-winning beers from long-lost recipes. Listen to Chris recount the history of beer-making in the Lehigh Valley while enjoying a great selection of beer from the Lost Tavern Brewery in Hellertown. Culinary Experts of Allentown will pair Lost Tavern’s selections with specially planned food. This cruise will include a lift lock experience in Lock 47 at the lower end of the canal in Hugh Moore Park. You’ll experience how canal boats were lowered and raised in the old days as they traveled from one section of the canal to another.
