Local Winery Helps Cyclists With A Cause
Fundraiser for Jim Thorpe Tour De Shore Team at Galen Glen on April 29
255 Winter Mountain Drive, Andreas, PA 18211.  Galen Glen Winery is thrilled about their next fundraising partnership.  On Sunday, April 29 from 12-4, members of the Jim Thorpe cycling team will be at the winery serving cheese plates and pulled pork sliders for $10 a platter (cash only please). Team members Alice Wanamaker, Assistant Vice President of the Northern Region of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce and Carbon County Economic Development Corp and Valerie Case, Regional Coordinator, Northern Region of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce; under the direction of cycling Team Captain, Corporal Michael Dugan planned the event as part of the team's ongoing fundraising efforts.  "Last year our team brought over $10,000 in charitable contributions back to our local area.  Benefactors included The Carbon County Special Olympics and the Rotary Club's fund to purchase bicycles for underprivileged children. In addition the funds help support the families of fallen police officers, including local officers Corporal Brian Dixon and Corporal Joshua Miller."  Kathy Matson, Galen Glen's Tasting Room Manager noted, "The winery will be donating $1 for every bottle of wine purchased between noon and four pm to the cause." When asked why she rides, Wanamaker stated, "Our police officers are there for us every day, putting themselves on the line and this is my little way to give back and be there for them and their families."  When asked why they selected to serve this menu, Case exclaimed, "What's better than wine and cheese? Plus, pulled pork can be paired with red or white wine.  I'll be enjoying my slider with Galen Glen's famed Riesling."  The winery staff is very passionate about cycling as well. Members of the Troxell family are avid cyclists and this is what led them to host cycling rides from the winery last summer and again this summer.  Wanamaker stated, "This event is a great way to kick off the cycling season and I look forward to participating in the rides in June, July, and August as part of my training for the July ride from Philadelphia to the Jersey Shore."
About The Jim Thorpe Team
The Jim Thorpers team has grown from only two riders in 2011 to over 150 last year. They are the second highest fundraising team participating in the 65-mile bicycle ride that takes place each year at the end of July. The Tour De Shore is a ride from The Irish Pub in Philadelphia to The Irish Pub in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event was founded to raise money for children in need and families of fallen police officers. In their time riding the team has brought over $70,000 back to our local area.
