Carbon County Transportation Subcommittee
Carbon County has improved public transportation as a result of the Transportation Subcommittee of the Carbon County Interagency and Collaborative Board. This committee surveyed community members in 2021 about transportation needs, developed a report and shared their findings with the County Commissioners and LANTA Transportation Services. We found that the general public is not fully aware of the offerings of the newly branded Carbon Transit. There are three transportation styles available in Carbon County. The first is called CT Bus which is a fixed route available to any rider who wishes to travel between designated stops throughout the county. A map and schedule can be found at www.carbontransit.com.
The second service is called Shared Ride. This is a door to door service for individuals that meet certain eligibility requirements. Rides must be scheduled in advance and utilize services during day time hours. The last service is called CT Flex. This curb-to-curb service was developed as a result of not having a fixed bus route in the Jim Thorpe-Penn Kidder area. There is no special eligibility for this service and reservations can be made in advance by calling 888-253-8333.
You will notice brand new signage for the fixed bus route between Redner’s in Nesquehoning and Palmerton. If you are a rider in Summit Hill you can easily flag down a bus along the designated route found on the map.
The Transportation Subcommittee acknowledges that in our rural county public transportation is not as advanced as it is in more urban areas. We will continue to work with the transportation provider to identify transportation needs and work to find resources for Carbon County Residents. Between summer and fall the committee and Carbon Transit representatives will collect suggestions and feedback from county residents.
