Leaser Lake, in Lynn Township, Lehigh County, is owned by the state, and stocked by the PA Fish & Boat Commission. The only lake in Lehigh County, it was opened to the public in 1971, and covers 117 acres. Lehigh County leases it from the state and maintains the park. The park is a good place for birding, especially during migration. Bring your picnic lunch–lots of picnic tables. This hike is appropriate for all ages. It’s not a wheelchair or stroller accessible hike—lots of roots and rocks, steep short inclines, narrow trails—but some sections of the park are accessible to all. Dogs on leash are welcome. Dress in layers for the weather, wear sun hat, sunscreen and wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring hiking poles or a walking stick. We’ll have some hiking poles to borrow. Bring your camera/binoculars for nature and birds. Bathrooms are at the boat launch. DIRECTIONS: From Route US-22 take Rt. 100 north for 8.6 miles to the T-intersection on Rt. 309. Turn left/west on Rt. 309 and go 2.6 miles and turn left onto Rt. 143 toward New Tripoli and Lynnport. Go 4.7 miles on Rt. 143 (aka Kings Highway). Look for the sign “Leaser Lake Access” and turn right onto Ontelaunee Road. Go 0.6 miles–turn sharp left to stay on Ontelaunee Rd. Go 0. 5 more miles to the boat launch and parking lot on the left.
