On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, residents throughout Jim Thorpe Borough are being invited to Jim Thorpe Memorial Park to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “38th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Jim Thorpe Police Department and Jim Thorpe Community Watch, will involve over 17,000 communities from all 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and Military bases around the world. NNO 2021 cooperate sponsors are Ring, Associa, AT&T, Academy Sports + Outdoor and Starbucks.
This year’s event in Jim Thorpe Borough will feature first responders from the Jim Thorpe Area, over 20 organizations and civic groups, food, drinks, prize giveaway’s for the kids and music provided by DJ Monroe Berger. The Jim Thorpe Police Department will also have the prescription takeback box at this event. This is the best way to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription and nonprescription (for example, over the counter) medicines. Before disposing of prescription medicines, be sure to remove all personal information on pill bottle labels and medicine packaging.
National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The Jim Thorpe Police Department would like to thank the Borough of Jim Thorpe, Jim Thorpe Community Watch, Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, the Mauch Chunk Trust Company, Shawn Kresge Services and DJ Monroe Berger for supporting this event. We would also like to thank the many organizations and civic groups for agreeing to volunteer their time to help make this event a success.
