DESCRIPTION:Join the Carbon County Women in Business for a special "Meet the DA" luncheon. Registration and networking will take place 11:30 A.M. to Noon.\n\n\n\nNoon to 1:00 P.M. enjoy lunch while learning about Carbon County's first female District Attorney. \n \n\nJean A. Engler was sworn in as Carbon County's first female District Attorney on August 29\, 2014\, to finish the term of Gary F. Dobias\, who retired after twenty-two years as District Attorney.  The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in Carbon County. The staff in the District Attorney's Office includes five Assistant District Attorneys\, two County Detectives\, a Victim/Witness Coordinator and clerical staff. The District Attorney's Office is responsible for the prosecution of adults and juveniles who are accused of violating the criminal laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.\n\n\n\nThe office routinely handles preliminary hearings\, conducts pre-trial conferences\, attends guilty plea and sentencing hearings and prepares cases for trial. Convictions may be appealed to the Superior and/or the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania. In addition to handling summary appeals\, the office also attends probation and parole revocations\, parole hearings and Post Conviction Relief Act hearings. The Office also coordinates and assists the Carbon County Drug Task Force which deals with drug violations throughout the County.\n\n\n\nThe Victim/Witness Coordinator provides services to victims of crime.
