Somersault Letterpress and Creative Sweeps the ADDYs
With Seven American Advertising Awards
Jim Thorpe, PA — (April 6, 2018) — The American Advertising Federation, Greater Lehigh
Valley chapter, recognized Somersault Letterpress and Creative, 60 Broadway in historic Jim
Thorpe, PA, with six American Advertising Awards at its annual ceremony held at the
Renaissance Hotel in Allentown, PA on Friday, March 16, and an additional Silver Award at last
week’s Regional Competition.
Somersault’s Mitch Hanson and Amy Pienta were thrilled to bring home armfuls of ADDYs – two
Silver, two Gold and two Judge’s Choice awards for their work created on vintage presses. Two
of three judges also chose Somersault Letterpress printed projects as their overall favorites
from all of the gold winners.
"Our work is made by mixing thoughtful design with tactile printing. In today's digital age, it's a
pretty big honor for letterpress printed pieces to be so admired. It's a really big deal considering all
the work was done by hand. On vintage presses. By two people who absolutely love what they do,”
Pienta said. “When two of the three judges pick letterpress printed projects as their favorites overall,
or when they talk of how they “couldn’t put the pieces down…” or, "couldn’t stop touching them…”
that’s what we’d call pretty effective marketing and it speaks volumes for the position of print in
advertising."
The team’s two gold awards go on to the regional level where they’ll compete in District 2,
which includes New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C.
The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest competition, recognizing
and rewarding the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. The Greater Lehigh
Valley chapter awards were the first of a three-tiered competition. More than 200 local clubs
also held competitions, followed by a district competition and then on to the National ADDYs.
